Pattern of Retinopathy: Although the locus of toxic damage is parafoveal in many eyes, Asian patients often show an extramacular pattern of damage. Dose: We recommend a maximum daily HCQ use of 5.0 mg/kg real weight, which correlates better with risk than ideal weight.

A visual field defect demonstrated by gross visual field testing e.g. confrontation testing. An initial workup for buphthalmos, congenital anomalies of the posterior segment or congenital ptosis. A disorder of the orbit, potentially affecting the visual field e.g. orbital tumor, thyroid disease, etc. A significant eye injury. Unexplained. During the annual screening assessment you will have a test called a visual field test. In this test, one eye is tested at a time while the other is temporarily covered with a patch. Hydroxychloroquine And Chloroquine Screening 2016 AAO Recommendations The American Academy of Ophthalmology released an updated set of screening recommendations for hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil and chloroquine to account for the many studies that have shown the effects of these medications on the retina 1.

Risk of Toxicity: The risk of toxicity is dependent on daily dose and duration of use. There are no similar demographic data for CQ, but dose comparisons in older literature suggest using 2.3 mg/kg real weight.

Central threshold automated visual fields with a white target • Subtle, repeatable visual field defectsshould be taken seriously and are an indication to do objective testing At least one of the following objective tests should be performed during routine screening if available19 Apr 20, 2011 Subjective testing of the central visual field was recommended to uncover early functional changes associated with paracentral scotomas. Paracentral scotomas have been reported prior to the associated maculopathy, so an amsler grid test or central 10-2 visual field perimetry was recommended. 2,5 Nov 18, 2011 The 10-2 white test was felt by the authors to be the most reproducible and easiest to interpret. Although visual field defects in HCQ toxicity can be highly variable in terms of the depth of defect, all our patients showed a similar pattern on 10-2 white, with the same areas affected.

Allergic to the Generic, can only have the brand name. I had this issue. Generic hydroxychloroquine plaquenil made me sooooo itchy all over, all day. When I had to try the name brand I was forced by my insurance to use Express Scripts home delivery for it to be covered. for two months worth, insurance covered the rest ~00/bottle. Wasn’t itchy with name brand so it was worth it.
