    Plaquenil curly hair

I'm wondering wtf my hair will be like in another 6 months. :-/ Hair pigment changes are uncommon with hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), but most certainly can occur. I've got naturally very dark hair, but after 6 months of plaquenil I swear it's turning red! The texture hasn't changed but I'm still weirded out! While Plaquenil may change th hair structure, it doesn't cause severe hair loss. You need to discuss this with your rheumatologist. When my hair was falling like crazy my rheumatologist said that's a minor symptom by comparison with the rest and it didn't warrant immunosuppressive a on top of Plaquenil. Aug 13, 2010 Prior to that it was straight as a board. Ironically, I had a kidney/pancreas biopsy and was on Cellcept but that was after my hair grew back curly. I think it's the plaquenil and the hair follicle cells changing as the lupus changes the cells in the body and the drugs while combating the disease changes the hair follicles. Just my opinion. Plaquenil is supposed to help with hair loss, not contribute to it. I would also suggest giving it some more time especially since the side effects of plaquenil are supposed to lessen after a few months of use.

The chance of helping for autoimmune (especially scarring alopecias) is high. It's a good question, except one important piece is missing: the chances of hair loss is low.
