    Plaquenil and muscle stiffness

If so, how long does it take to make pain and stiffness go away? My dr is using it trying to get rid of all of my joint pain and stiffness that seems to be taking over my body. I had a pretty bad flare right after Christmas and my rheumy added methotrexate to what I was already taking. I don't know for sure if it is the plaquenil or other meds but my rheumy seems to have my inflammation/stiffness under pretty good control. Just rediced plaquenil from one tablet twice a day to one tablet once a day. I have noticed an improvement but it's very little.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a form of arthritis with inflammation of the joints, characterised by stiffness, swelling and pain. Plaquenil may be used for short or long-term rheumatoid arthritis treatment. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is commonly used for treating joint pain in Sjögren’s syndrome patients, based in part on its efficacy in treating the joint pain of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. I've been on it a year, reluctantly. I do not want to have to be maintained on any chemicals or pills. Now that I've been on it a year the only thing that has improved is fatigue. But I"m not sure if it's because the flare passed or because of plaquenil. I still get joint, muscle and back pain so to me it hasn't improved the pain part of it.

He encouraged me to stay with it 3-4 months in order to get the full effect of any help I may receive. However, I think I may be getting migraines from it?! Just remember everyone has a different reaction to the various meds. I don't know if the plaq or MTX or prednisone is what's helping. Plaquenil takes quite a long time to get to its peak effectiveness: depending on what you read, anywhere from 3 months to a year. I also take Cimzia injections bi-weekly but that has only been for about 6 months. Although I do have to give credit to my rheumy because after just a month or two I wanted to be taken off the Cimzia as I didn't think it was really doing much. Hi brandi, I tried Plaquenil, unfortunately for me the side effects is what took me off of it. The kind where I wanted to scratch every inch of my skin off. Took about a week of taking 2 kinds of allergy meds before I got rid of that effect. I have 2 days a week, after my MTX, where I'm just sick. I've been on the MTX now for about a month and when I see my rheumy in 2 weeks I'm going to see if I can try something else or stop taking it.

  7. Jul 10, 2012 The swelling and stiffness in my joints is the only thing Plaquenil helped for me. It did not help with pain, fatigue, or any other symptoms, but it definitely reduced the stiffness in my small joints like my fingers, which used to be swollen and stiff every morning for about an hour.

Jan 22, 2020 Polymyalgia rheumatica is a form of arthritis. It causes pain in the joints and muscles of the lower back, thighs, hips, neck, shoulder and upper arms, and other parts of the body. The condition occurs when the lining surrounding the joints, bursa and tendons near the shoulders and hips becomes inflamed. Jul 16, 2019 I take both plaquenil and methotrexate MTX. MTX is a chemotherapeutic agent, but autoimmune patients take it at much lower dosages that cancer patients. With the exception of plaquenil, MTX is the immune suppressant with the fewest side effects. It makes a huge difference in how I feel. I agree with CameronC and all others who are "pro" Plaquenil. I was diagnosed with Limited Systemic Scleroderma in late 2001 & started Plaquenil at the beginning of 2002. Joint and muscle pain and overwhelming fatigue were my worst symptoms.

Plaquenil Reviews & Ratings at I get Plaquenil from international pharm & it's much cheaper. It works better than biologics that contributed to/sped up process leading to my cancer. I'm now "cancer-free" & refuse to go back on them. I might have to get vision checked & deal w/other mild side effects, but pain/swelling is gone on Plaquenil.
